It’s been a long time coming but Scholars have finally put out their debut album – 6 years of playing blistering live sets has produced a blistering debut.
The whole album has the impetus a drive of a live show and their combination of Post-Pop and deranged indie-metal is completely convincing.
The album is produced by Larry Hibbit and he has managed to temper their sheer excitement with some very clean sound and tight production.
‘Rage Concern’ is vaulting and filled with great harmonies while the drums pound like a V8 at full revs.
The single, ‘Black and Blue’, has a hardcore element to it but tied to a fine melody and should be a serious contender while ‘Hydrochaesin’ which follows has an almost Prog-metal feel.
‘Damage’ has a whacking great bass line and digs unmercifully at the tabloid press while their earlier single ‘Blind Data’ still works with its eerie opening and furious vocals.
A young band who know their crowd – they are still fans too – and a cracking debut. All good.
