Oscar Isaac joins singer-songwriter Gaby Moreno on The Tonight Show starring Jimmy Fallon for duet
23 January 2024
Last night, singer-songwriter Gaby Moreno performed a stunning version of the song ‘Luna de Xelajú’ with the actor Oscar Isaac on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon.
?
The bilingual duet is a tribute to Guatalama where both Moreno and Golden Globe winner Isaac were born. The song features on Gaby’s forthcoming album Dusk out 16th February on Cosmica Records.
Gaby previously released the singles ‘Solid Ground’ and ‘Dance The Night Away’ as previews of Dusk, which was recorded with Dan Knobler, and as well as Isaac, features collaborations with Van Dyke Parks and guitarist Marc Ribot (Tom Waits).
?
Recently, Gaby won a Latin Grammy for Producer of the Year for her work on Omara Portuondo’s album ‘Vida’, as the awards took place in Europe for the first time ever; and she has two nominations at the upcoming 2024 Grammys for Best Latin Rock/Alternative Album, and Best Latin Pop Album.
?
Gaby will perform a London show at The Pheasantry, including a Q&A with Jazz FM Breakfast Show host Nigel Williams on 15th February 2024.
?
With all this in store, it looks set to be a huge year for Gaby Moreno, who has previously recorded with the likes of Ry Cooder, Jackson Browne, Van Dyke Parks, Jim Keltner, Marc Ribot, Hugh Laurie, Golden Globe-winning actor Oscar Isaac and Buena Vista Social Club’s Omara Portuondo since settling in Los Angeles 20-odd years ago.
?
Chances are you’re already familiar with her music, if not her name. Moreno co-wrote the theme song for popular TV sitcom Parks And Recreation, receiving an Emmy nomination in the process. She appeared on the soundtrack to DreamWorks’ Puss In Boots: The Last Wish and has seen her work featured in Netflix dramas Orange Is The New Black and Guillermo del Toro’s Cabinet Of Curiosities, in which she also starred alongside Rupert Grint.
?
On her new album Dusk, Gaby says:
“I want this to be my introduction to the Americana world, which is something that I've been trying to do for as long as I've been releasing albums.
?
I’m a Latin artist, a bilingual artist, and there's not a ton of representation in that department. I deliberately made it so that there are more songs in English than Spanish this time around. I still want people to know that I come from Guatemala, but just like artists before me - like Los Lobos or Linda Ronstadt, who were able to get into that whole world - I would love to see a new generation of artists from Latin backgrounds.”
?
On Gaby Moreno’s music, Van Dyke Parks says:
?
“Gaby tells tales with flawless pitch, the eye of an eagle, hand of a woman, heart of a lion, that all champion the joys of multiculturalism. This album is Gaby skilfully produced with an ace of a band, redefining Americana.”
