Cavetown, the project of UK-born singer, songwriter, and producer Robin Skinner, has officially announced his new album, ‘Running With Scissors,’ set for release on January 16, 2026. To celebrate the news, he has released the new single and video for ‘Rainbow Gal,’ a shimmering, synth-laced love song inspired by his relationship.

The track, which is built on 8-bit textures and glitchy vocals, reflects the grounding comfort his partner brings him, even from a distance. According to Skinner, “‘Rainbow Gal’ is like a light display turned into a song, she brings all the color into my life.”

Since his beginnings uploading songs from his Cambridge bedroom, Cavetown has become a beloved voice for his generation, amassing billions of streams and earning six RIAA Platinum singles. His music, which has evolved from lo-fi to expansive indie-pop, has created a global community and provided solace to millions of fans.

‘Running With Scissors’ marks a new chapter for Skinner. The album was written after a two-year healing process and finds him exploring more raw, mature emotions. He grapples with themes of family, identity, and what it means to grow up, all while staying true to the fans who have grown with him. As Skinner explains, “I want them to enter this new era with me and not feel like it’s for kids. Because I’m not a kid anymore. I want it to feel like we’re moving forward together.”

The album includes the previously released single ‘Baby Spoon,’ and explores themes of love, masculinity, and vulnerability. The sounds range from acoustic melodies and field recordings to hyperpop glitches, showcasing a newfound vocal bravery and range.

In addition to his music, Cavetown continues to support causes close to his heart. His This Is Home initiative has raised over $650,000 for LGBTQ+ organizations, solidifying his role as a community builder as well as a musician.
