It’s impossible to picture John Lennon without a pair of his iconic circular-rimmed glasses. Since the first time he wore a pair of signature round glasses publicly in the 1967 British film “How I Won The War”, the look became a piece of his identity. From the end of The Beatles through his distinguished solo career, the glasses are inseparable from Lennon. A pair of glasses worn by Lennon sounds like a fantasy to Beatles fans, but now — thanks to New Jersey auction house Gotta Have Rock & Roll — you can own a pair straight from his personal collection.
The pair of glasses comes with a signed letter from Lennon himself, which gifts the glasses to a close friend of his. The letter states that he wore them in 67’ along with the line “With love from me to you”. This iconic piece is sure to make any Beatles fan blush, but it certainly won’t be easy to get your hands on it.
With a starting bid of $60,000, you’re going to need some pretty deep pockets to pick up the pair. However, with a signed and authenticated letter of provenance from Lennon himself it’s easy to imagine that this museum piece just might find a new home.
The full story behind the glasses, including how they were originally obtained, is available on
Gotta Have Rock & Roll’s website. The auction is running now through December 9th.
