To mark the launch of the video game, The Last of Us Part II, British singer songwriters Emily Burns and Dan Caplen have each leant their personal music styles to produce two new versions of the song Through the Valley*, which featured in the reveal trailer for the game. Quickly becoming a firm favourite amongst fans of the first game, Through The Valley has become a viral hit, previously reaching number 1 in Spotify’s viral chart, and spawning numerous covers by diehard devotees of the game.

Emily Burns, one of the UK's most exciting up-and-coming pop talents and Dan Caplen, a contemporary R&B and soul singer, famed for his previous work with Rudimental and Macklemore, have each created a unique version** of the emotive track, two new and completely fresh takes on the poignant song which features in the game.

Emily Burns said: “I was really excited to be approached by PlayStation for my take on ‘Through the Valley’ to celebrate the launch of The Last of Us Part II. I loved the song as soon as I heard it and immediately picked up my guitar and started working on my own way of singing it. I knew I could make it my own by layering my voice to create a kind of pad of vocal harmonies. It was really fun to experiment!”

Dan Caplen commented: “I’ve been playing the cello since I was six years old and I’ve been recording covers during lockdown to share with my fans. So it was the natural fit to rework ‘Through The Valley’ to be played on a cello. I’ve seen how much the song has resonated with fans of The Last of Us and all the great covers people have been posting already. So I hope my version can do all of them justice. It’s been a really fun project to be a part of!"

Emily and Dan performed their versions of Through The Valley live on their Instagram last week. The tracks are available to hear via Emily and Dan’s YouTube channels (Emily Burns & Dan Caplen).
