Kurt Vile, the revered indie rock troubadour, has today released his latest project, the 'Classic Love' EP, a collaborative effort with Nashville songwriter Luke Roberts. Out now on Verve Records, the five-track EP is described as "succinct and infectious," already garnering praise from critics. Rolling Stone notes it's "sure to delight KV fans," while Stereogum calls the title track "a warm, easy, comfortable jam."
The 'Classic Love' EP is deeply rooted in collaboration, drawing heavily on Vile's long-standing friendship and creative partnership with Roberts. Their connection dates back to meeting on MySpace, with Roberts later touring alongside Vile during his seminal 'B'lieve I'm Goin Down…' album. Roberts has since released his own acclaimed LPs on Thrill Jockey and Thurston Moore’s Ecstatic Peace. Vile states their collaborative work exudes an energy that is "sad and funny at the same time," an ethos he considers central to his own music.
Before the full EP release, Vile shared the title track, "classic love," accompanied by an official music video. Directed by Lucky Marvel, the video features both Vile and Roberts in a playful pick-pocketing scheme, offering a quirky visual complement to the track's laid-back vibe.
Known for his prolific output, Vile's discography spans nine solo LPs since 2019, alongside numerous EPs and collaborations with diverse artists such as Courtney Barnett, John Prine, and Hope Sandoval. 'Classic Love' stands as a concise yet emblematic entry in his extensive catalog, showcasing his signature ability to craft engaging, unvarnished songs that invite repeat listens.
Kurt Vile is currently on tour across North America, performing a mix of headline dates and shows with Pixies. Upcoming dates include stops in Washington, DC, Detroit, MI, and St. Paul, MN.
