We are all well overdue for a bit of blues and harmonica drawls in the music scene and Claire Nicolson now provides this medium. Her double A-sided debut single, shows off her playful and powerful talents. The first song ‘Toothpaste & Whisky’, evokes a sense of merriment in the listener and keeps them interested by her buoyancy and toe-tappingly good rhythm. The harmonica in this track is provided by none other than Alabama 3’s Nick Reynolds, so she has some good backing.

Conversely ‘Scorpion’ takes on a completely different pace. It is more evocative, thoughtful and delicate, concentrating on the pureness in her voice. The slow twanging guitars contribute to this effect. She has a unique ability to draw the listener in and this two song teaser single, it makes you want to find out more about her. Fortunately, you can as she is releasing her debut in early 2011. From this offering, it gives you the impression that the complete package is going to be an interesting listen.
