Early Nirvana hit my ears. Oasis (before they took on the world)… these are early recordings of Manicomio 4 ‘Primo Respiro’ (First Breath) EP.
They are a dirty, no nonsense, 4-piece from northern Italy comprising of guitar (Vic), bass (Giuly), drums (Dany) and vocals (Pippo).
First track ‘Caganero’ vocally touches on Litfiba whilst turning around and smiling warmly and gently back to a long gone and missed musical heritage of likewise warm charming beneficial and heartfelt crazy lovable maniacs.
The bass kicks ‘Dublin’ screaming into gear with an ominous dark indie club vibe, guitar and drums collide in a frenzy. Afterwards the vocals leaves you relishing the taste of one of those classic triple decker sandwich’s, and before you know it we fall headlong into ‘Let’s Cork’. Here we see sticksman Dany, announce his vocal prowess on an Oasis/Beatles or is it Lennon/Giovanotti number.
(Whatever) it has to be said, generally sung in Italian, these boys hit a key. ‘Fatalistic attitude in everyone, everybody full of bullshit talk’ one of the defining lines that shines through on a 6-track EP absolutely worth anyone’s hard earned shekels.
‘Big Black Pig’ (contender for best named song of the year) rounds off this epic debut all produced in Ice Studios Gropparello.
Pixies fans beware there’s a storm brewing, Ramones are still alive, Pistols feck off, we have sound! Get ready for Manicomio 4!
