The UK music scene has more than its fair share of female solo artists, so much so that you might think the genre is somewhat saturated. You might think that, until you hear Alice Watts. The pretty London-based singer songwriter’s EP Your World blends simple folk melodies with soul and, every now and again, ever so subtle reggae influences make an appearance – making it difficult to say her sound is derived from any one artist. Certainly the like of Norah Jones have obviously played a part in Watt’s style but there’s a more raw quality. What really makes Watts stand out is her voice, simple yet outstanding at the same time. Healing Hands is the stand out track – with a simple strings melody providing the perfect backdrop for Watts stunning voice.
A beautiful debut.
