The return of Shack sees them playing a couple of gigs, one a sold out show in their native Liverpool but tonight has them playing a London date in the purpose built Islington Academy.
With the venue being smack bang in the middle of Angel's shopping mall, I had a feeling that the ‘Shacknetters' were a bit bemused by this, as I was.
A humble but glad to be here, Michael Head comes onto stage joined by his brother John with Iain Templeton on the drums and Pete Wilkinson on bass guitar fresh from leaving the Bunnymen. The crowd are tanked up (some have been on the lash all day) and shouting all sorts of expletives to Mick & the boys but mainly song requests. Starting the set with a new number and followed with an array of their rich back catalogue from albums ‘Zilch','Waterpistol', ‘H.M.S Fable' & last album ‘Here's Tom with The Weather'. Also we were treated to a couple of numbers from Michael Heads solo ‘Strands' album. With the new tracks been premiered in tonight's show, it shows that the sound and talent of Michael Head is still in full force. New album title caused much amusement, as its title was almost indecipherable due to a clearly plastered Mick & his thick scouse accent. Shouts of ‘whats that again Mick?' continued through the night.
A second encore was almost on the cards, as the engineer was no where to be seen once they had left the stage again for a good two minutes of cheers/claps/floor stomps but we were left high and dry after 90 minutes of harmonic bliss.
