Hector Bizerk

witnessing the rise of Hector has been incredible. The first time I seen Louie spit some lyrics over Audrey`s drum beats had been at an Alternative Burns Supper around 2 and a half years ago and you could tell something special was happening as a demographic of all ages and all genres was silenced by the skills on display.

fast forward to Saturday night and the new album `Nobody Seen Nothing` is launched. An ironic title for this evening since everybody seen everything. Stereo is packed to the rafters . and they heard it too. Such is the fine venue with a brilliant sound. I sadly missed opening acts Strange Empire and Scribbo + Butterscotch as I was trying to be in Two places at once again (Homesick Aldo wowing the Buckfest crowd at 13th Note) but I was assured they were all on fire and from previous experience I would expect nothing less.

And onto Hector, the anticipation is feverish as the sweat drips from the walls. People are apparently being refused entry for fears of overcrowding then the trademark `Drums!`Rap! Yes!` begins. A baws-on-table calling card that takes shots at bland indie bands, commercial pop music and the music industry in general. It slowly builds until Louie and Audrey speed it up and the crowd moshes into a frenzy booming back the words that adorned the debut album and so perfectly sums up their sound `Drums! Rap! Yes!`

Audrey does the drums, Louie does the rap and the listener goes `yes`. The method in which it is done is in almost telepathic fashion that they have turned heads outwith the Hip Hop scene and more importantly, outwith Scotland. These days they are now joined by the swagger of Fraser on Bass and the glamour of Jen on Synth/ backing vocals which gives them a much fuller sound.

Tonight they are on fire and rip through old songs and new . the crowd are singing along to songs that haven`t been released yet and this is down to a band that work harder than most. They have appeared at almost every festival in Scotland this year, played London and even made it across the water to play Ireland whilst recording a clear contender for album of the year. Pretty much every major city and town in Scotland has already been Hectored. But this is Glasgow- and this is a celebration, a homecoming of sorts. A reward for their efforts. And this is a band who simply don`t ever play badly or even make a mistake onstage that you would notice.

It`s a polished, confident performance as per although there is perhaps an extra bit of emotive drive that comes with selling out your hometown on launch day.

Highlights are `Party at A & E`, `Man Up` and brand new single `Colombus` which sees the amazing Jen sing the catchy hook that the crowd oblige in singing along with. It`s a 5 star performance and sets the scene nicely for a friendly afterparty which sees Damaged Goodz, Mistah Bohze & NC Epik, Gasp and an impromptu performance from fellow Deadlifers GBH and Erin Friel sealing the deal of a night not to be forgotten.
