Julie Hawk has been described as sounding like a bonkers Kate Bush and on the eccentric side of Bjork. That side of her can definitely be seen in her music video for the single 'Take Off Your Suit' which is full of glitter and some of the most unconventional vocals you are likely to hear in the indie world at the moment.
Originally from Ireland and living in musician’s alley also known as East London, she has gone from being a solo artist to having a 4 piece band behind her. Think vintage, alternative and a whole lot of crazy and that’s what you get from Julie Hawk’s music. However, in person, she comes across as very sweet and humorous. Her alter ego is what obviously comes out on stage and in her sound.
Meeting at Tease Me Tea Shop in Ladbroke Grove on a very hot summer's day, Julie and her bassist Matt talked to me about life so far in the band, the year ahead and what it’s like being compared to some pretty big artists.
