Back from recharging their batteries, Avenged Sevenfold have unleashed their highly anticipated title track from Hail To The King, succeeding a sequence of taunting teasers.
Avenged Sevenfold have endured a journey of grievance, affliction and rebirth and it can be assured that the days of 2010’s Nightmare are well and truly laid to rest.
Whilst most bands are all seemingly following suit and embracing the advances of technology, by making use of an array of fresh electronic and synth equipment, it appears that Avenged Sevenfold have hopped into a time machine to initiate the revival of classic metal.
There’s no masking the prominent mid-80s and early 90s influences, as inspired by the records the Californian quintet grew up on, resulting in the sound of the new single being reminiscent of the works of Black Sabbath and Iron Maiden. Clad with frantic guitar riffs, an elaborate guitar solo and gritty bass guitar, sustaining the steady tempo, M. Shadow’s dramatic, omnipotent vocals during the chorus wouldn’t seem out of place in an 80s metal band as he belts out the anecdotal lyrics.
Progression of the band is inevitable however the adaption of their style proves rewarding; although some may criticise the drumming approach which diverges greatly from Avenged Sevenfold’s previous material. With the loss of Jimmy ‘The Rev’ Sullivan, new recruit Arin Ilejay has the duty of surprising fans by adopting power over technical ability and not overplaying to suit the way the songs are written.
The sixth album Hail the King is due to be released under Warner Bros. Records on August 27th.
