Its a big one this year for T in the Park as it celebrates its 20th birthday going strong as Scotland's biggest and best festival. Over the years T in the Park has grasped a strong 'pop' musical focus, and 2013 is no different, with Mumford and Sons, Rihanna and The Killers performing as consecutive headliners over three days. As the beautiful sunshine sets on day one at the festival, I take a look at Friday's highlights at T in the Park 2013.

Opening the main stage are T in the Park staples The Proclaimers, performing Scottish cheese in all its glory. Love or hate them (and I'm guessing the latter is the most prevalent answer here), Charlie and Craig provide a patriotic beginning to the festival's 20th anniversary celebrations.

T in the Park will always put on the biggest bands from around the world, but they will also give upcoming and unique new acts the chance to perform to thousands via the T-Break stage. My new favourite band today from T-Break are Hector Bizerk, a Glaswegian hip hop act. Already established on the Scottish music scene, Hector Bizerk showcase frontman Louis's quick talking passion for hip hop, alongside familiar tracks and original material.

Jake Bugg has become very popular very quickly, and in today's gorgeous evening sun he proves just why. With the vocals of a 60s country singer and the coolest ever stage persona, Jake Bugg is a charming and very talented musician. Given this however, its the main stage headliners Mumford and Sons who make the biggest impression on today's bill.

Day one saw Calvin Harriss, Of Monsters and Men, and Chase and Status take to the stages, but Mumford and Sons set was by far the best. They may fall in to the cliche that 'every song sounds a bit samey' but when you've found such a good formula, why change it? Leadsinger Marcus Mumford's vocals are as crystal clear and beautiful as they are on record, and the whole band's timing is impeccable. Their recent success, including being named 'best British group' at the Brit Awards, is fully justified, and although its a mellow live set, its a beautiful beginning to what promises to be a frivolous weekend of birthday festivities.

It looks likely that our lovely friend the sunshine will be joining the party over the whole weekend, and with Rihanna, Snoop Dogg, Frightened Rabbit and Discopolis on the bill tomorrow, its set to be another great celebration! Stay tuned to Music-News.com for a round up of Saturday's hottest performances.
