The debut single "It Ain't Easy" from East London alt indie guitar band The Red Lapels is released on May 27th. Formed of four very cheeky chappies with high ambitions, their sound is still evolving but they have a pretty clear idea of what they want in the coming year. The single has the lightness of Two Door Cinema Club and vocals similar to Jake Bugg. Watch their chilled out video on YouTube and you might want to grab a pipe, slippers and a smoking jacket and run for the nearest Chesterfield to feel part of this.
Getting an interview with these guys has its challenges - meeting at the Monarch in Camden before one of their latest gigs, it was hard to get the band to sit still for any length of time. Once I'd chained them to the chairs, the Red Lapels were melancholic, eloquent and full of randomness. There is no doubt that fashion is also a part of their brand and they describe themselves as third generation Mods. In person, they look a cross between Paul Weller and Mumford and Sons!
