Let me introduce you to Brooklyn based outfit Hawk and Doves. Their first studio album from the band entitled “This Yesterday Will Never End” is an unpolished gem, it is lazy at times yet masterful. It is rusty round the edges yet it seems even better for it.

The album could quite easily be compared to albums from Mumford and Sons and Laura Marling however that would be very short sighted. With glistening guitars and chilling vocals it would be the perfect soundtrack to accompany any sunny afternoon. Despite the fact that sunny afternoons may be hard to come by brilliant songs certainly not hard to come by on this album with opening track “Send Your Blood To War” standing out and setting the precedent for the rest of the album.

“This Yesterday Will Never End” may be a strange title for an album. Ultimately it doesn't make sense and this album doesn't make sense. It shouldn't be as good as it is, but it has to be said it is a brilliant album. Dazzling and confusing at times, it is thought provoking and emotive yet completely baffling.

With tracks such as “How She Became a Tree” and “Muscle Breaks” this album looks set to be big. There is no question that folk is huge at the minute, however to label this album a folk album would be wrong it seems to go deeper than that. In fact the band’s name seems fitting, it suits the band perfectly. Hawks and Doves are too very different birds; they are completely contrasting beings yet both beautiful are beautiful in their own right. The same could be said for the sounds of Hawk and Doves they are a mix of many different styles, each beautiful in their own right.
