Australian singer Sarah Blasko says God-Fearing is about being bullied – about feeling used up and spat out. Those bitter sentiments are hidden underneath the warm strings that open this lead single from her fourth studio album I Awake. Her vocals though have that shimmering edge that makes you feel that the message being shared is the well-worn Shakespearean warning of hell hath no fury.

“Biting my lip and holding my tongue, was the most stupid thing that I've ever done. Got carried away, let myself down, I'll shoulder that blame if you'll admit what you've done” Blasko sings over a slow sensual drum and piano – as you picture a woman scorned wreaking revenge on her unfaithful lover.

This is both sumptuous and menacing at the same time; quite a trick if you can pull it off. Less poppy and more intriguing than some of her previous material, God-Fearing is an inviting taster for this month’s album release.
