Capri get the funk out on this their debut album. From Leeds they are eleven in number and have come to spread their particular brand of soul, funk and jazz fusion. Imagine the Starsky and Hutch theme tune, bump up the rpm's and we have the glorious instrumentals ‘Car Chase on Phoenix Avenue', ‘The Getaway' and ‘Firebird'.
Daniel Woodward (drums), Chris Donnelly (bass), Matt Windler (guitar), and Benson Walker (vocals) form the core of Capri. Clearly accomplished musicians Capri make it all sound so cheerfully fluid. Most of the album follows that 70's funk logic although there are other influences such as the soulful ‘Into The Sun' which seems to have been inspired by both ‘Smooth Operator' (Sade) and Steppin' Out (Joe Jackson).
Stand out tracks are ‘Boogie Man' which has some inspirational funk grooves along with a spine tingling horn section and percussion. ‘Shake It' has that James Brown thing going on, ‘The Getaway' could have been lifted from a Mission Impossible film soundtrack and ‘Firebird' is 70's cop opulence.
With a funky retro quality all of it's own Boogie Man is calling you.
