Jenni Muldaur

‘Dearest Darlin’ finds Jenni Muldaur continuing the family business.

The daughter of musician Geoff Muldaur and singer Maria Muldaur (Midnight at the Oasis) has toured and recorded with a number of household names, such as Eric Clapton, John Cale, Todd Rundgren, Lou Reed and Meatloaf, and the 12 tracks show her forceful vocals in a very good light.

A supporting group featuring a powerful bass section, guitar, bass, drums, keyboards is just the right support for her vocals, whilst the 11 covers on the album feature tracks from the past fifty years.

Bo Diddley wrote the title track, although only the beat is similar in both versions, whilst the traditional ‘Hopali’ only features light percussion and vocals, and is the more powerful for its stark instrumental backing. The opening two tracks of ‘I’ve got a feeling’ and ‘You’re breaking me up’ are love songs, with upbeat backings, whilst the more lowkey arrangement of ‘Lost Someone’ is a showcase for Muldaur’s vocals.

The only self-written track on the album ‘Comatose town’ is a classy singer songwriter type song, with jazzy syncopations, and doo-wop style backing singers, and shows that Jenni Muldaur has a promising career out of the shadows of her parents and the high class musical company that she has been keeping.
