Django Django.

This was Django Django's first appearance at Reading and on this performance it is unlikely to be their last.
The band who formed in Edinburgh in 2009 played a 40 minute set on the Radio 1/ NME stage on Sunday afternoon, just as the best of the weekend's weather was forcing it's way through the clouds. This sudden burst of sunshine on a typically wet British bank holiday weekend was probably the reason that the tent was not at full capacity for a band that have been so critically acclaimed.

Django Django rattled through an upbeat set that included all of the major tracks from their well received self titled first album. The band were obviously enjoying themselves on stage on their first outing at Reading with the crowd responding well to their own brand of indie electronica.

When lead singer Vincent Neff offered to take the crowd on a ethereal trip to Cairo at the beginning of Skies Over Cairo the crowd would have gladly obliged and started packing their bags. The track continued as a mixture of mysterious and exotic synths that made you want to grab your magic carpet and go for a ride.

As the band moved into playing Waveforms, the crowd had started to pulsate in time to match the electro opening of the song. The band bounced happily along the stage as the metronomic sound of old fashioned wood block kicked along in the background.

Towards the end of the set when the time came for the band to play the track "Default", the song that had first brought them to prominence, and the psychedelic lyrics of Neff started to take over, there was a feeling that a trip to Cairo with Django Django wouldn't be half bad.
