Gramercy has been recently formed by Crispin Hunt, one time frontman for Britpop band Longpigs, whose singles ‘Far' and ‘On and On' still strike a melodic chord. Nigel Hoyle, of equally Britpop Gay Dad, and producer Nigel Hoyle complete the line-up. Armed with this information I could have been forgiven for being slightly bemused at the soft American rock that confronted me on 'Hold On' their debut single release.

‘Hold On' is Steely Dan, The Eagles and the track that just failed to make it onto Fleetwood Mac's ‘Rumours' rolled into one. They have re-worked their sound to produce a palatable if not formulaic debut. What was more interesting to me were the two extra tracks, ‘Possibilities' and ‘Please Don't Lie'. Both display greater depth of guitar, the latter reminding me of Lloyd Cole in his ‘Love Story' period, and for me there is little higher praise.

I will follow their progress with interest.
