The opening track on Everything Breaks and their single ‘High Shots’ regurgitates extremely mellowing lyrics. This coupled with a funky yet consistent rhythm, produces an interesting flavour that backs up Severin’s thought of choosing High Shot as the single and opening track of their EP.

Macabea, the second song on the EP shows the advantages of mixing traditional ‘Rock’ instruments and the infinite possibilities in electronic music. As the song progresses, you notice a somewhat sadistic beat which blends in well with the Laser sounding effects.

In contrast, Light/Water (3rd song) has a very sluggish beat (especially on the drums) sounding like slow drum and bass. Not the liveliest song, Light/Water offers a change in musical direction, steering towards doom and gloom.

The final song and in my opinion, the strongest of the EP is 0806. 0806 is certainly the most upbeat track with the guitar setting the pace. The vocals by Martin in 0806 give off a reminder of the potential talent of Severin, with a hint of Ladyhawke floating about.

With the mixture of genres and tempo within the 4 track EP Everything Breaks, it’s easy to draw comparisons to similar artists. As well as Ladyhawke, other artists that draw similarity are: The XX: Lights and The Big Pink. Despite being rookies in the music industry, Severin are starting to build up a loyal fan base through Blogging and Social Media. It will be interesting to see where they are a year from now. Hopefully like me, Everything Breaks will attract you to them and the number of followers continues to grow at a rapid rate….
