Having been around since 2006 it seems very odd that East Kilbride’s The Detours have only just got round to releasing their debut EP. They’ve gigged extensively and undergone line-up changes but all the same…six years?! Did college get in the way?

Anyway, the EP opens with One Last Chance, a bouncy, pacey pop-rocker that is pretty indistinguishable from many others. Ignite itself follows and after a Van Halenish intro settles into an overall heavier groove, which is much more satisfying. Free follows and while not quite up there with Ignite, it’s in that sort of area and the band sound pretty comfortable in it.

For a debut this isn’t bad at all: the performances are good and tight; clearly the results of hard gigging. But there are a ton of bands plying this type of user friendly rock, so it’s going to be tough to get noticed.
