Are you a teenage girl who loves One Direction and the Jonas Brothers? Then Elevate the second studio album by Big Time Rush is right up your street. If, however, you like your music served up with a healthy dollop of musical talent and just a dash of creativity and uniqueness, then this isn’t the band for you.

Big Time Rush is a five piece boy band formed in Los Angeles. The album acts as the soundtrack to their Nickelodeon television series, which features songs that appeared in the series’ second season and the upcoming television movie. Well groomed, dazzling white teeth and clean cut-ness – these are boys every parent wants their little girls to bring home.

As a group, they prove their bubble gum pop credentials with each song dripping with sun-bleached dance-pop melodies, repetitive, non-descript lyrics and the ever-present bright, white smile. The un-originally named title track “Elevate” is the only track almost, but not quite, entirely like every other track. All that was missing was a touch of Taio Cruz.

N-Sync and Take That proved that boy bands can make half decent albums. Maybe in a few years’ time Big Time Rush will prove me wrong but I think music will have moved on by then. They must being doing something right - 70,000 copies of the album sold in its first week and an $8 million net worth in 2011 making them some of the youngest top earners last year according to Forbes.com.

In the wise words of Ford Prefect, I suppose Big Time Rush are “Mostly Harmless” but most definitely un-original.
