Charlotte Gainsbourg released her new single on 23rd January which was taken from her album ‘Stage Whisper’ released on Monday (30th January). Her whole album consists of live, studio material and ‘Anna’ truly expresses that raw quality taken from live studio edits.
Her style, French pop/ folk rock and this track ‘Anna’ has this evanescent chilled indie vibe which is easy listen to. However, it really isn’t my cup of tea! I think its lacks in depth and conviction and to be truthful I found it boring!
The most exciting element of this track is the musical composition of folk instruments which added a nice quality. It seems very stagnated and shows no potential to even borderline the realms of current music trends. Again I think there are many strong components to Charlotte’s music for example her vocals and the uniqueness of her musical compositions, but, whether they have been connected and explore in the right way I’m not sure.
Yes ‘Anna’ is peaceful, laid back and maybe something you would listen to on a Sunday morning but unfortunately that’s as far as my recommendations will go.
Charlotte’s album ‘Stage Whisper’ features collaborations with Beck, Conor O’Brien of Villagers, Noah and the Whale and Connan Mockasin.
