Intimacy is a word that sums up Kate Walsh in perfection, and the Glee Club was definitely the adept choice of venue for fans to experience this. Though Kate isn't a new face to the often overlooked Arcadian-based arena, as she's gone from playing the smaller room in previous years, in which she actually prefers to headlining the main stage.
The singer-songwriter's depth is extremely heavy at times of sheer self-reflection, and live, this is enhanced further, especially on the intoxicating Your Song, which left many fans fighting back the tears.
But the audience involvement with Kate is definitely the result of such a relaxed venue. With a collection of pull-up chairs, Kate's expressions filtered into her settled fans, and her warming yet elusive stage presence provides a homely and relatable connection.
All this means that the beatifying singer-songwriter can grasp hold of fan's emotions, breathing her down-to-Earth lyrics into listeners, and showing them that they are just as much a part of this experience as she.
Swapping from acoustic guitar to keyboards, Kate's talent never falters, and she's a dab hand at other people's songs also, with the release of her covers album Peppermint Radio last year proving this. A live performance of I'm So In Love With You by Erasure literally blew the audience away, and you could feel her intoxicating soul and energy, as she made the track her own, flittering a vibrating keyboard exuberance which was as heartfelt as an actual couple in love.
More like a friend than a performer, Kate Walsh reconciles the audience with their emotions, allowing them to reflect and associate to her. And her consistently natural conversation and warmth with fans eases them into an organically refreshing performance.
