The Sanddollars EP is the latest creation from 'Why?' - a folk-pop-indie-hop four-piece fronted by Oakland Bay resident Yoni Wolf, who for the best part of six years has recorded solo under the same name. On board now is his brother Josiah Wolf (the drummer), guitarist Matt Meldon, and all-rounder Doug McDiarmid to bring 'Why?' to life as a band. The Sanddollars EP is the follow-up to the 2003 Early Whitney EP the full length Oaklandazulasylum.
The EP is built up on eight tracks of beautifully structured sing-along melodies and hooky choruses along with the crazy-arsed twisted lyrics that I'm not sure I actually understand one bit. However, I can't stop listening to this record; it's an absolute breath of fresh air. Just the ticket as summer is about to be unleashed. (We live in hope.)
Rumour has it that September see's the release of a new full-length album Elephant Eyelash, so pick up this lo-fi extravaganza to prepare yourself for the next chapter. Thumbs up to Anticon for another gem of a release.
