This five-piece from Newcastle release their debut album on Warp Records. Having supported the likes of Bloc Party and The Others and currently playing their own headline shows the imminent forecast for Maximo Park looks good.

‘A Certain Trigger' is a blend of indie-pop heroes of the past. For example, ‘Postcard Of A Painting' would ride well with Smiths fans comfortable with their musical heritage before mutating into The Doors' classic ‘Crystal Ship'. Duncan Lloyd continually punches out solid guitar riffs as in ‘Apply Some Pressure' whose Idlewild influence is undeniable. One of the highlights is the gritty single ‘Graffitti' a Shed Seven – Supergrass composite. ‘Limassol' combines Lemonheads strum-along chic with a lazy keyboard finger to deliver another highlight on an album, which matures with each listen.

In short Maximo Park, named after a park in Havana, will spark off more than a few comparisons from the past and present, but the evenly knit guitar chords woven into a rich tapestry tell their own unique musical story.
