I’ve been wracking my brain for weeks trying to think of something positive to say about Sean Rowe’s Magic, and sadly there is little to be said. Sean has a unique voice in a sort of Editors way, but it really doesn’t work alongside his album.

Described as an ANTI-Debut (What the hell is that?), his debut album is like watching the film Jason X, slow, torturous and you’re left feeling like your soul has been raped by the end. The song writing throughout is god awful, for instance take the lyrics ‘Heyyyyyy Jesus, what’s that light?’ but even that is nothing in comparison to some of the composition on the album. Take the track American for example, which may be the slowest track in the history of music. The song has minimalist instruments in the background, so you’re left with just the oh so painful singing of Sean Rowe for the best part of six minutes. Things don’t really pick up with Old Black Dodge either, which in a bizarre way manages to reek of arrogance whilst at the same time making you fear Sean Rowe. I have no idea how he achieved this, but this is the only achievement of an otherwise shite album. Aside from this Sean Rowe also attempts some squealing in a few songs that makes him sound like a very, very poor Thom Yorke rip-off.

That is about as positive as I can make this review. If I had gone full throttle, Music News wouldn’t let me write for them anymore. All I can say is lock your kids up, double bolt the front door and pray that you never have to encounter the music of Sean Rowe, and pray for those who have.
