In business it is often vital to have what they call a unique selling point, but in music that can only ever secure a certain amount of interest. So when you find out Toy Horses are the rather intriguing stepfather and stepson pairing of Tom Williams and Adam Franklin, you hope the story isn't better than the music. And if this single's anything to go by, you won't be disappointed.

Inspired by their shared love of sixties British music, Toy Horses’ debut is an infectious slice of strumming pop, polished with a Nashville (where it was recorded) sheen. There is nothing clever here, no over the top tricks, just a cracking piano bed, coated with subtle strings.

The music is only half the magic though, with the band delivering some exquisitely poignant lines; “as he sits in the car, it won’t start in the rain, the petrol light has been on for days.” This has the ingredients for what often proves a winning formula, the juxtaposition of upbeat melody with tragic lyrics.

Toy Horses have been making waves in the music industry over the last 12 months, getting linked to artists like Jason Derulo and Sean Kingston, now it’s the turn of the public to discover what all the fuss is about. No need for a USP here, just enjoy the music.
