Leika, a band like the millions of others who are annoyed at the degradation of popular music thanks to X Factor, wanted to do something different. Whilst their album Space On Tuesday is different from the glorified pop karaoke contest, it’s the same indie rock we’ve been listening to for the past ten years.

On first listening Leika sounds like an Arctic Monkeys cover band. As the Space on Tuesday develops it dies appear to become more original and other influences such as the Smiths shine through. Saturated vocals, grimy bass lines and Madness style horns section bring an eclectic mix of productions values onto songs which wouldn’t seem out of place on a Strokes LP.

There are some catchy hooks and interesting tunes but on the whole it does lack excitement. I think this type of music is dying out. It really should be anyway.
