Sara Bareilles’ 2007 album (Little Voice) was one of the biggest surprises of the season, from which she received two Grammy nominations for her triple platinum selling hit single Love Song. Nearly four years after that, Bareilles is back with new music.
King of Anything may sound like a happy song, but it’s actually a sort of a “f*ck you” song,” jokes Sara Bareilles. “I've had more unsolicited advice on my life than I care to mention, and this was how I dealt with it. It felt empowering to turn that frustration into music, especially a song that doesn't even sound angry. That's sort of what “Love Song” was as well. Apparently, I don't get over things very quickly.”
Once again, the piano-playing chanteuse doesn't exactly break any new ground, but why should she change her winning formula that lead her to sell over one million albums worldwide? The track is magically catchy and empowering. Sara has found her own style, her comfort zone. Now, if the British songstress wants to go one step further in her next albums, she should start taking more risks.
Is it as good as Love Song? No. Is it a good song? Of course!
