Alloy Ark are a band that truly astonishes me. Billed from Norwich, the duo's E.P is one of the most odd and confusing I have come across. Having listened to them many, many times its hard to describe them without a string of 4 letter explicit references, here it goes anyway.
The groups E.P ‘To the bottom of the sea’ switches between English and French throughout, offering a kind of child-like version of Keane, which comes across more disturbing than anything else. Even after dissecting the lyrics of tracks like ‘One Two Three Four’ I still don’t really see what the band are trying to portray, other than a weak listless love song.
Having also referred this onto a French colleague, I have been reassured that it’s not simple British laziness that makes me distain the work of Alloy Ark, and to quote his thorough review of the E.P, “Its Shit”. Hard to disagree really.
The problem with the group is their songs all border on nursery rhymes, yet somehow wouldn’t appeal to kids. I’m not sure they would appeal to anyone in truth.
So there we go. Alloy Ark is only for, well, Alloy Ark fans really. Surprisingly, the band has garnered positive reviews from some journalists, but I assure all fans of Music News they are completely wrong and to listen to the group would be a waste of your ears.
