Synchronised Swimmers is the title track of Hafdis Huld’s second solo album, which actually came out in 2009 in her native Iceland, and early 2010 elsewhere and doing very well by all accounts.

It’s a wonderful, sparse, acoustic guitar led song, though subtly filled out as it goes along. But it’s mainly a foil for Ms Huld’s delicate, but deceptively authoritative voice. Vampires is the other track and again it’s an acoustic base though more relaxed and nicely accompanied by a male voice.

Billed as folk-pop, on this evidence, Ms Huld tends to lean more towards pop than folk, but it doesn’t matter as these are two fine, very enjoyable songs. Her take on classic Christmas songs should be very interesting.
