This latest track from his upcoming LP next year mixes a catchy chorus with radio-friendly grime and ultimately sounds a little too generic, indicated by its poor chart performance in just scraping a top 40 place. The remixes don’t add much either and begs the question why make 4 different remixes if they all sound like they’ve been produced for the sake of it, with one of the Crazy Cousinz’s remixes simply being a sped up version with a bunch of annoying effects you’d expect from DJ mode on a keyboard. Hardly innovative.
Whilst Chipmunk enjoyed a nice slice of success through the likes of ‘Until you were Gone’ he had Esmee Denters who already had a decent reputation rather than Jessica Lowndes, a young actress who has worked almost exclusively in the states. Lowndes doesn’t do a bad job, but ultimately after a few listens you’re left with the impression any female singer could have done the same vocals.
Overall your left with a feeling of mediocrity from ‘Falling In Love’. It aint that good and it aint that bad. Ironik will need to offer something more varied in future releases to bolster his way back into the higher reaches of the top 40.
