Famous is the new single from The ex-men a duo consisting of singer Jack Sims and Matt Green.
The single mix is a pounding slice of electro pop dominated by Sims spoken vocals. This vocal technique can be off putting and at times Sims sounds incredibly smug. This comes to the fore when he’s telling us about the trappings of fame, fortune and women. Now Master Sims has discovered a very rude word to describe women and the rebel that he is, is very keen to share his newly found word with us. It’s a bit juvenile really.
Childish nonsense aside the song’s catchy and hangs together pretty well. There are also three remixes as well as radio edits of the single and remixes, which is good value if nothing else. They’re all worth a listen, taking the song through familiar indie guitar pop and to a curious ambient mix.
