Oooooo- Eee. The classification of this little gem in iTunes etc is ‘Rock’ and they hit the nail squarely on – this is classic ‘ROCK’, all heavy guitars and belting vocals and there are so many flashbacks in this album it feels like my musical life is drifting in front of my eyes.
You can just imagine the hirsute figure of Sam James Velde striding across the stage, head thrown back and his throaty vocals pealing out classic clichés while Justin Maranga and Greg Buensuceso belt out massive Blues riffs to left and right of the drums. Nick D’Itri, head hanging down holding it all together on bass while Jamie Miller is going apeshit on his drum kit – that is the film that is playing in my head while ‘Goodbye Gone’ is belting out.
I was lucky enough to see bands like Deep Purple, Uriah Heep, Golden Earring and Juicy Lucy in their prime and this has hooks from all of them but there is also a freshness and a real enthusiasm for the music in their playing.
‘Black Clouds’ has all the trademarks of Bad Company plus some pedal steel in the background and it is little things like that that set the music as something new.
‘Blizzard Of Oblivion’ is a monstrous power rock track with great hooks and some huge drumming from Miller and Velde screaming out in the best cock-rock fashion.
These guys are modern and throwback, original and obliged, powerful and beholden – I have been having a love affair with this kind of rock for years and it is a pleasure to hear that there are still bands finding new ways to do the thing – a cracker.
