Kill Light are Richard Day and Tom Vella, who with the help of Lara Smiles bring a summery yet soulful vibe to their new release from Wearhouse music. ‘In The Dancehall’ is exactly what the title says; a dancehall infected stomper that has a massive breakdown followed by wobbly swirls of synths and a bit of top notch toasting over the top! Reminiscent of Diplo’s ragga tinged side project Major Lazer, this wonderfully upbeat tune delivers on every level and could shake the rump of even the most hardened cynic.

‘Can’t Run’ is a more downbeat affair with hushed vocals that echo MJ Cole’s classic ‘Sincere’. Moody bass and 2 step beats creep up slowly to build an emotive tune that become catchier and more affecting on each listen. The remix by Kry Woolf is full of dark bass which gives the track a sinister twist while Max Morrel dubs it up on his re-jig. However, both mixes pale in comparison with the original.

It is very refreshing to hear two completely different sounding songs on one EP and that is down to the eclectic style of the renaissance men behind the fantastically named Kill Light. If they continue to keep pouring all their differing influences into the pot then we can hopefully expect more audio joy from Wearhouse’s latest signing very soon.
