Take the sensational mezzo-soprano vocals of Faryl Smith, the magnificent reach of tenor Wynne Evans and the accompaniment of the National Symphony Orchestra.
Add the tranquil setting of the stately Kenwood House with a picnic atmosphere brimming with national pride and warm champagne to toast a spectacular evening of Last Night of the Proms 2010.
Smith’s classical vocals hypnotically resonated over a captivated audience with her medley of tracks including ‘Amazing Grace’, ‘Danny Boy’ and ‘Ava Maria’. The National Symphony Orchestra conducted by Andrew Inglis performed a magnificent rendition of three infamous pieces taken from ‘The Nutcracker Suite’. Evans took to the stage with his highly polished, performance of ‘Nessun Dorma’, ‘Bread of Heaven’ and a stunning piece from ‘Tosca’.
Prosecco, Pimms and patriotic splendour reached its heightened peak as the classical trio launched into the grand, rousing climax of ye ol’ favourites; ‘Land of Hope and Glory’, ‘Rule Britannia’ and ‘Jerusalem’. An exuberant audience, rapturous ovations, a sea of Union Jacks and a night sky alit with fireworks then drew the curtains on a fitting finale…
