Alan Pownall hails from London, is 25 and used to share a flat with Mumford & Sons. He has toured with Noah and The Whale and Marina and the Diamonds.

His debut album True Love Stories has just been released, and includes current single ‘Chasing Time’.

Whilst he may not like the comparison, describing Alan as a UK version of Jack Johnson / Jason Mraz would give you a good idea what to expect, especially on the single. It’s light, breezy acoustic tracks with a catchy melody. Perfect for lazy summer days.

Much of the album is in a similar vein of acoustic tracks dealing with break-ups, heartache and all the other trappings of romance. ‘Take Me’ sees a slight ska vibe kick things off before the bouncy track takes over – this is future single material – very radio friendly. ‘The Others’ is a little Badly Drawn Boy with some great opening strings (cello?) before the gentle lilt of Alan’s vocals take over.

Closing track ‘You Know’ is the perfect gentle closing track to this promising debut album. At times the tracks blend a little too much, however it is clear Alan Pownall has a knack for song writing and performing.
