Winter Chill has a warmth that contradicts its title. Its mellow atmosphere leaves you with a Ready Brek glow and keeps the log fires burning nicely. Disc one is filled with seductive female vocals, either guesting or in their own right. Those feature include Robina and I (with Eventide); Bonnie Bailey (Claude Bareau and his Orchestra); Sia, and the irrepressible Alison Goldfrapp with the fantastic, sultry ‘Black Cherry'. Feisty Kingsbury/Liverpool trio Sugababes fit in well among these new artists with ‘Stronger'. Each track is carefully chosen for their soothing, electro properties. Dead Composers' spellbinding ‘Chile Con Carne' is both uplifting and hypnotic and is a trippy-trance delight. While FC Kahuna's ‘Hayling' is as mystifying as it is dreamy.

Compiled by Mark Doyle aided by Carrie ‘Sunburn' Miller and Team Kandi, this compilation takes its inspiration from Natalie Imbruglia's ‘Cold Air', one of many high moments on disc two. The second disc is more guitar lead with Katie Melua's sweet ‘Blame it on the Moon', the glorious Mazzy Star ‘Flowers in December' and Snow Patrol's ‘How To Be Dead' featuring. One of my favourite bands of the moment, Engineers, sit perfectly between Imbruglia and I Am Kloot, with the enticing beauty of ‘Forgiveness'.

Compilation albums are invariably a mixed assortment of vibe, some flow effortlessly while others are thrown together with little thought or feeling. Hats off to Mr Doyle et al for sharing with us his pick ‘n' mix with such thematic purpose. At present, disc two is my preferred, with its guitar chill blend. But undoubtedly disc one will take its turn as the favourite in time. Both offering an intensity without drifting too far from calm. Despite the title this is an album for all seasons.
