Being the runner-up in X-Factor is the equivalent of comparing Transformers 2 to Transformers. You’re over bloated, hyped up and make a lot of money at the time, but afterwards you’re thrown to the curb.

It’s now been 7 months since Olly Murs finished second in the reality show. This has meant that any fandom created has almost surely faded by now, so becoming a success relies on the quality of his output and not his reputation.

Unfortunately there is nothing to distinguish ‘Please don’t let me go’ from any other half hearted pop song out there. It’s a slightly catchy, feel good tune but lacks any lyrical thought or original composition. Doo-Be-Da lyrics are good when the song needs it, like Ob-La-Di-Ob-La-Da, but this is just an embarrassingly commercial ploy to get teens to sing at concerts.

If this is the music Olly wants to make then fair play to him, but the likelihood is he’s being thrown to the slaughter and it’s unlikely he’ll return.
