'Oh yes! It’s Devo' was my reaction when the band’s new album Something For Everybody was announced a while ago (read the full review by my colleague Andy Snipper). It’s Devo’s first album since twenty years and takes us right back to the golden age of synth-pop and into Smooth Noodle territory.

As is the case with every album release, a single release goes hand in hand and it’s no different here. The single is entitled Fresh and it’s also the album’s opening track, released in the UK and Europe as digital download only!

The sound is precisely what we have come to expect from the weird and wonderful five. It opens with power-infused chords and then gives way to a fast and upbeat groove. The arrangement is minimalist, yet hugely danceable and energetic. As for the lyrics, they too, are classic Devo - consisting of that unique combination which fuses quirky with sardonic and mock-angst-ridden lines:

'Something in the air
Is telling me to go there
So I’ll follow my nose
Go wherever it goes.

'It’s calling from around the corner
Waiting just outside of town
Trailing vapors sweet and tangy
Daring me to track it down.'

It’s time for de-volution and the Motherbaughs and Casales invite you to get fresh, so get into the groove!
