Whilst we all know the best music is British (!) our Yankee friends across the pond have been known to throw the odd decent tune together!! This 'celebration’ of USA music really is quite good, if slightly retro set of tracks. Most of the 3 CDs do centre on the 80’s with the likes of Huey Lewis & the News, Whitesnake, Maria McKee, Billy Idol, Heart, Toto etc. all making appearances. There style of music was often pop / rock, soft rock, MOR style music and again this is evident in the tracklisting. Even Whitesnake and Poison toned it down, with resultant huge hits.
As will all compilations there are those you’ll hit the skip button – Cyndi Lauper’s True Colors (they can’t even spell properly!!) really doesn’t do it for me. ZZ Top are well placed at the end of CD1 so you can eject rather than skip!!
But overall a great compilation of feel good pop / rock.
