Electro duo’s and kids with laptops trying to make music; there’s been a fair few of ‘em, and as with all things, there’s been some pretty bad ones and some downright amazing ones, but to which end of the spectrum do Victoria and Jacob lie?
Actually, nearer the amazing end, but they aren’t there just yet. First track ‘With No Certainty’ is a glitchy synth led track that blends its continuous drum machine beat with all kinds of clicks, beeps and beats. Victoria takes lead vocals on both tracks and her voice suites the music despite the lyrics being relatively weak, but in all fairness, there’s been plenty of groups that fit into the same genre that haven’t pushed the boat out with their words.
On the flipside you’ve got ‘There’s a War’; a slow track that stays true to the pair’s style, but coming across more relaxed than the previous song. It’s still great though, and the vocals seem to blend more with the music this time around than in ‘With No Certainty’. The song slowly builds into a beautiful synth based corker that, for what it’s worth, is actually quite beautiful.
I like this kind of music, I always have; I’m a massive Postal Service fan, so I can definitely see the appeal in Victoria and Jacob’s music. It’s not going to win over a massive audience, but I don’t think it has too - it captives the listener enough to encourage them to listen again and again, and I for one will be repaying them a visit sometime soon.
