Listening to this I reckon that Mr Bowskill must be an absolute blast to see live. As an example of what a three piece Blues/rock band can do he is a wonder – and only 18!
My personal history goes back to some of the great British Blues & rock guitarists – guys like Jimmy Page, Peter Townshend, Clapton, Ritchie Blackmore, Rory Gallagher or Alvin Lee, I have genuinely seen them all and I think that the current crop – guys like Virgil MacMahon, Ian Parker, Oli Brown and Danny Bryant - are keeping a very bright flame alive and Jimmy Bowskill is definitely one to add to that list.
The band is a classic three piece – Jimmy on guitar and vocals, Dan Neill on drums and Wayne Deadder on bass – and they play some great rock, full of power and passion and some superb guitar play.
Bowskill is no shredder, he is far more an old-fashioned rocker with slide and power chords aplenty backed up with some heartfelt vocals but the overall sound could have come from the late ‘60’s, pre-punk ‘70’s, or at any time through the eighties, nineties or aughties; like I say, classic but not hackneyed.
He plays a Gibson Les Paul and his sound is that characteristic ballsy and Bluesy sound but he sometimes plays the Gibson like a Strat and the result there is interesting with the power of the Les Paul and the speed of the Strat together; not the only guitarist to achieve that feat but one of the youngest. He is also not afraid to play with effects and sounds from the get go like he is enjoying the music and enjoying doing what he is doing.
This is one for all the ages – top notch rock and damn good fun.
