All Days Are Nights: Songs For Lulu
Polydor (label)
05 April 2010 (released)
18 April 2010
Rufus has had a whirlwind past couple of years. With the recent passing of his mother and his acclaimed opera taking up a vast majority of his hours, he has been able to find the time and the will to record his sixth studio album, an album containing some very candid and personal accounts of his experiences over the months.
There is no band to hide behind as Rufus and his piano softly play through a selection of his self-penned titles as well as three Shakespeare sonnets arranged into a musical track by Wainwright. Included also is the final aria from Wainwright's opera 'Les Feux D' Artifice T' Appellent'.
This is obviously a very important album for Rufus and is also one of his most stripped back; his elegant, classical vocal style bring a measured approach to what are quite often some difficult and personal subject matters. By no means is the drama lost though, as through his piano playing and his voice he is able to translate the sentiment in each song exactly as it was meant to be interpreted without drowning it in overindulgence and excessive melodrama; certainly an achievement from a musician renowned for his trademark flamboyance and dramatic style.
