This morning I was driving towards Coogee beach in Sydney when 2 Door Cinema Club came on the radio. 'OMG!’ I thought - are there any airwaves that have not been pervaded by these catchy electro pop/rock tunes?

The sun is shining, the motionless clouds look like they have been cut out of magazine and stuck in the sky and I was being urged to go 'to the basement’ by 2 Door. I won’t be going anywhere near a basement today, but I will be listening to Tourist History, 2 doors début album. They really are a band for carefree afternoons driving in the splendour of the midday sunshine.

Only a few weeks ago I was in a heaving room watching the band live. Were they any good? Hell yeah! Despite the fact that their album wasn’t out until the following week the crowd were singing and dancing along to the songs, a far cry from the last time they performed there to a room full of less than hedonistic music industry professionals.

So who are 2 Door Cinema Club?
2DCC are three youthful lads Alex Trimble, Kev Baird and Sam Halliday who
formed in Bangor, Northern Ireland in 2007. With a massive PR push and word of mouth they will undoubtedly be massive this year.

In December 2009, Two Door Cinema Club were featured in the BBC's Sound Of 2010 Poll, which was decided by 165 British 'tastemakers’.

I first heard for 2 Door through Kitsune Maison 8, from a track on the album entitled 'I Can Talk’. They are Bangor’s answer to Vampire Weekend, but not as cool, or preppy. The depth of lyrics is a little shallow and juvenile but from this simplicity you can see real potential and it will be interesting to hear their progression over the coming years.

Will they evolve to be more evocative and poetic or will they just be another summer band whose music features as a backdrop to GMTV competitions and exercise routines on the beach. At the moment 2 Door are great band to see live. Do they have a 'different’ sound or a unique style? Not so much - but their youthful optimism, happy vibe will go down a storm at festivals this year and I for one already have my tickets booked for their May gig at Heaven.

Best Tracks of the night? Do You Want it All?, Something Good Can Work, I Can talk and Undercover Martyn.
