Still with a decidedly small fan base but with some major airplay on Radio 1 and slots at Glastonbury, it seems Alcatraz already have an established, anthemic quality that can easily be likened to that of the slicker, Joshua Tree-era U2 and the grandiose stadium sound that would even have Bruce Springsteen nodding in approval.

The foot stomping vitality that fills every nanosecond and the furious drum assault would lend itself perfectly to a politically charged marching tune if it wasn’t for its distinctly overoptimistic air and ostentatious 'altogether now!' chant-along near the end

An emotive and stirring piece for sure, but it all kind of leaves me wondering what it is Sound of Guns are trying to be. Maybe they haven’t quite decided at what is quite an early period in their career; which is fine, because I’m also undecided as to how I should feel about them. Give us a few more tunes, Sound of Guns and maybe I’ll climb down from this fence I’m sitting on.
