Shout Out Out Out Out are a 6-piece from the town of Edmonton in Alberta, Canada. As oddly interesting a bunch as their name suggests they are a band intent on pushing their sound as far as possible and this five track album sampler of record number two 'Reintegration Time' finds them commanding a fascinating position within the electronica rock landscape. As much Hot Chip as restrained Nine Inch Nails and as much Simian Mobile Disco as Animal Collective, you can expect an eclectic fan base.
Already reasonably established across the pond, thanks in part to a great live show that features two drum kits and about 12 synths, they arrive here hotly tipped. Guilt Trips Sink Ships, the first single to be taken from an album that is due to land in the UK on April 5th, comes on like The Faint covering Billie Jean before slowly unwinding into a hypnotic mash up of drums, recalling DJ Shadow and !!!. It's nearly a full two minutes before the warped vocals of Nik Kozub enter and it's psychedelic mesh of sounds prompt visions of naked flower dancers bouncing around boxes of wine at this years festivals.
Remind Me In Dark Times is brooding in nature, slightly sinister in approaching its mid-point prompting those NIN thoughts, while vocally Crystal Castles and again The Faint do battle. In relation to what is not clear, the chanted 'What part of this is mine? What part of this is mine?', suits the ever so slightly creepy cryptic nature of a track that despite this still maintains an upbeat tone. While Bad Choices, arguably the highlight, is LCD Soundsystem teaching Grandaddy to party.
There's a lot to take in here but it's all rather exciting to be honest.
